Albuquerque Metro Area Neighborhoods
Albuquerque
is divided into four quadrants: Northeast (NE), Southeast (SE),
Northwest (NW), and Southwest (SW) . The North and South dividing
line is Central Avenue, also known as "Old Route 66." The East and
West dividing line is Broadway, or to old timers the railroad tracks.
Each quadrant has its own unique qualities and distinctive neighborhoods.

SANDIA
HEIGHTS (AREA 10) - North & South ZA: A23, B23, C23, D23
- Situated at the foot of the Sandia Mountains. Elegant contemporary
and adobe–styled homes on one–half to one-acre lots. Natural landscaping
is dominant in this area as well as great city views. Many "Santa
Fe" styles homes amid southwest contemporaries. This
area, of custom homes, provides beautiful views of the night time
lights in the city of Albuquerque. There is a park and the Sandia
Peak Aerial Tramway located in Area 10. |
NORTH
ALBUQUERQUE ACRES (AREA 20) - East of Ventura/Holbrook, South of
Elena, West of Tennyson, North of San Antonio - Similar
to Sandia Heights. Some of the streets and roads are not paved as
yet. There are good mountain and city views. Horses are allowed
in some sections. This area has custom homes with lot sizes
averaging 1+ acres and is located outside the city limits. Wells
and septic tanks provide water and sewage treatment to the area.
Rustic best describes this area with horses being a common sight.
There's a firehouse, an elementary school, and five parks in Area
20. |
ALBUQUERQUE
ACRES WEST (AREA 21) - East of I-25, South of Tramway Road, West
of Ventura, North of Paseo del Norte - This is a lovely
area which includes the Tanoan Country Club and the High Desert
community and has many of the newer and custom homes in Albuquerque.
Golf, tennis and health clubs are in close proximity to this neighborhood.
This area contains two major shopping malls, four fire stations,
one police sub station, two library branches, eleven elementary
schools, four middle schools, one high school, three alternative
schools, two magnet schools, two charter schools, thirty eight parks,
and seven tennis courts. |
FAR
NORTHEAST HEIGHTS (AREA 30) - East of Wyoming, South of Paseo del
Norte/San Antonio, West of Tramway Blvd., North of Montgomery
- A lovely area which includes the Tanoan Country Club
and High Desert with many of the newer homes in Albuquerque.
This area contains two fire stations, a police sub station,
a library branch, seven elementary schools, two middle schools,
two high schools, twenty three parks, one basketball court, one
golf course, and five tennis courts. Some of the city's most affluent

FOOTHILLS
NORTH (AREA 31) - East of Tramway Blvd. to mountains, South of San
Antonio, North of Montgomery - A lovely area which includes
the Tanoan Country Club and High Desert with many of the newer homes
in Albuquerque. This well established community has private
golf, tennis, and swimming facilities. With a clubhouse for meetings
this area has two parks for recreation. |
UNM
(AREA 40) - East of I-25, South of I-40, West of San Mateo, North

SOUTH (AREA 42) - East of I-25, South of Central Ave., West of San

Albuquerque International Airport, Kirtland Air Force Base, and
Sandia National Laboratories. Subdivisions include the well established
Ridgecrest and Nob Hill sections. |
NORTHEAST
HEIGHTS (AREA 50) - East of Wyoming, South of Montgomery, East of
Tramway Blvd., North of Central Ave. - Variety abounds
in this section of the city. Homes with tremendous views are found

FAIRGROUNDS
(AREA 70) - East of San Mateo, South of I-40, West of Wyoming, North
of Central Ave. - This section is bordered on the south
by Kirtland Air Force Base, Sandia National Laboratories and the
Albuquerque International Sunport. The Ridgecrest and University
areas contain charming older homes in established neighborhoods.
There is easy access to hospitals and downtown. |
SOUTHEAST
HEIGHTS (AREA 71) - South of Central, East of San Mateo/KAFB, North
of KAFB, West of Tramway Blvd. - This area includes
the southern half of the University area, Nob Hill , the stately
Ridgecrest and Willow Wood areas, and the quaint Victory Hills neighborhood.
This area is home to many UNM Professors and Medical Staff of the
area hospitals. There is a fire station, police substation, two

DOWNTOWN
(AREA 80) - East of Rio Grande River, South of I-40, East of I-25,
North of Cesar Chavez - Many older homes in this area.
Historic "Old Town", the museums, The Rio Grande Zoo and many other
tourist attractions are located here as well as the Convention Center
and office buildings. Revitalization best describes the downtown
area, it contains the historic Huning Castle and Huning Highland
neighborhoods, with new apartments, town homes and lofts. The area

Views of the city and mountains can be spectacular from some neighborhoods.
There are many family areas. The Ladera Golf Course is great for
the golfer's enjoyment. The city's newest Cottonwood Mall is located
in the northeast between Taylor Ranch and Rio Rancho.

access to Northeast Heights and I-25 via the six lane Paseo Del
Norte Bridge. The Cottonwood mall is just minutes from this area.
This area, in the farthest Northwest corner of the city,

PARADISE
EAST (AREA 121) - East of Unser, South of Sandoval County Line,
West of 528/N. Coors, North of Paseo del Norte - Located
on the west mesa, this section of the city boasts of good city and

Easy access to Northeast Heights and I-25 via the six lane Paseo

CORRALES
(AREA 130) - Corrales is in Sandoval County - Fruit trees.
cottonwood trees, horses and a slower pace best describe this unique

some mini-farms are available. Some areas have excellent mountain
views and long historic roots. Corrales has septic

is usually five to fifteen degrees cooler than in Albuquerque. Snow
